Why micro / domestic wind turbines? ?

Ideal for households, rural businesses and remote areas where there is no reliable mains supply, domestic wind turbines harness free, clean energy from the wind. Usually, this energy just goes to waste, but a wind turbine kit enables you to capture it and store it in batteries, so you can use it later, even when it’s not windy.

Simple to install, our micro / domestic wind turbines come in a range of power outputs from 200W to 1kW. Add some PV panels and you have your own completely sustainable, year round power generation system.

Our DIY domestic wind turbines are DC output and are supplied with a 6m tower, charge controller and inverter to convert the power to 240V AC. The full wind turbine kit comprises:

• 3 section tower
• Tilt-up base-plate for the tower, including securing bolt
• Wind turbine body including cabling and bolt for tail
• Blade hub with 6 bolts and restraining pieces
• 3 blades
• Tail including 6 bolts for fin
• Fin
• A nose cone
• 4 catenary wire pieces for stays (generally supplied as two uncut cables)
• 6 U bolts to secure catenary wire
• 2 round spikes for securing footing
• 3 or 4 guy anchors to secure catenary wire to ground
• 3 or 4 turnbuckles with hook and eye ends
• A charge controller
• An inverter

In high winds, the wind turbine’s blades will furl out of wind to prevent damage.

The only other items you will need to complete your wind turbine installation are a bank of deep cycle batteries, cable and concrete. The size and length of cable depends on the location of the wind turbine in relation to the batteries and inverter. Larger, shorter cables will tend to minimise any losses.

Batteries for domestic wind turbines

Clearly, the wind doesn’t blow every day and we don’t always need power when the wind is blowing. That’s why domestic wind turbines require batteries: they enable you to store power as it is generated and to draw upon as needed. At Alian Energy, we can supply deep-cycle 85Ah 12V batteries and 110Ah 12V batteries.
